Das E-Mail erging als Statement eines italienischen Footballfans zur Situation in Europa an die EFAF und in Kopie an die Verbände von Österreich, Finnland, Frankreich und Spanien. Gestern erreichte es auch uns. Der Inhalt ist so humorvoll aufbereitet, wie er auch zum Nachdenken anregt, schildert er darin auch eine gewisse Verzweiflung angesichts der österreichischen Dominanz im europäischen American Football und bietet der EFAF eine recht simple Lösung für das ‚Problem‘ an. Wir habe das Schreiben übersetzt und beantwortet. Lesen und Staunen sie selbst über die Ausführungen von Fabrizio.

Diese Forderung kommt von einem italienischen American Footballfan, der eines Tages diesen Sport als einen der weit verbreitetsten in Europa sehen möchte.
Ich beginne mit einer Provokation: Bitte entscheiden Sie, dass der Gewinner der Austrian Bowl automatisch auch der Gewinner der Euro Bowl ist. So könnten sich die EFAF und alle nicht-österreichischen Vereine viel Geld, Zeit und Kilometer sparen.
Ihre Organisation agiert genau umgekehrt den jene anderer Sportarten. Kein anderer landesübergreifender Verband organisiert seine Bewerbe mit dem Ziel ein Finale mit nur einer Nation darin zu veranstalten. Auf der anderen Seite tun die ihr Bestes um diese Situation zu vermeiden, die einer Verbreitung des Sports nicht unterstützt.
Es sind drei österreichische Teams für das Viertelfinale im kommenden Jahr fix qualifiziert. Kein anderes Land hat überhaupt drei Teams im Bewerb. Alle drei haben Heimrecht. Ich kann verstehen, dass der Sport in Österreich wichtiger ist als in anderen Ländern, dass sie mehr Sponsoren, mehr Zuschauer und dadurch mehr Geld haben, aber ich glaube nicht, dass das einer guten Zukunft des Sports zuträglich ist.
Wenn Österreichs Mannschaften so stark sind, dann, so denke ich, können sie kein Problem damit haben sich als Gastmannschaften zu qualifizieren und gleichzeitig so die Möglichkeit haben ihr Footballkönnen in ganz Europa zu zeigen.
Damit könnten Sie, als Organisator, in Zukunft vielleicht ein Finale mit nur einer Nation darin verhindern. Außerdem glaube ich auch, dass die österreichischen Mannschaften wohl verstehen, dass der Sport keine Zukunft hat, wenn man ihn nicht in Europa verbreitet und nur innerhalb seiner Grenzen bleibt.
Bitte ziehen sie das bei ihrer nächsten Planung in Betracht.

Dear Fabrizio,
Thank you for your brave and honest E-Mail, which may represent the opinion of many footballfans in europe. Unfortunally a popular fallacy is in it.
I can understand your worries and desperation, but your solutions are somewhat too simple.
First: We already had the situation with Austrian teams travelling to Finland, Spain, Norway, Germany etc. and the result was almost the same. The Vikings travelled in 2007 to scandinavia twice. Both times it was a shady adventure, sportive worthless, with the outcome of two walkovers against Helsinki and Eidsvoll. We can play on the north pole and still gonna win these games.
Spain is the same – useless, unless we play soccer or bull fight with them.
Also Austrian teams beat German teams in Austria and in Germany the last years. So where else can we travel to? Unfortunally New England is not in Europe – they might beat us. At home. Just a joke.
Second: The EFAF will not save money with Austrian teams playing not in Austria! You mentioned the reason already: money. No other country will pay for play as much as we do, respectively the EFAF wants. So the EFAF will have to reduce their fees, if they want this. I guess, they won’t do that voluntarily. 😉
Third: Itlay. Who is your federation at the moment? FIDAF, FIAF or still the EFAF nursery teacher IIAFA?

You have a huge problem in Italy with communication, organisation and cooperation. You are not taken serious at the moment by the rest of us. You canceled the European B-Championships, because of this chaos, and now you really claim to play at home…
One team (Parma) beat two Austrian contenders (at home) under more or less curios circumstances. The teams the panthers beat, are irrelevant for and therefore out of the Austrian Football League Playoffs after the preliminary round. They are clear #5 and #6 in Austria. It took not only Parma, but also italian referees to secure those victories. Which is kinda sad. If you believe it or not: if an Austrian team looses in an upset, like the Dragons did in Prague, we are on one hand disappointed, but on the other also happy, that somebody out there is still alive.
One team (Bergamo) had the chance to play our current #4 in Austria and #2 in Europe, the Vienna Vikings. By the way: Does the case, that the second best team in Europe ist also the fourth best team in Austria, confuse you, like it confuses me?
Bergamo showed up with some young talents, one great US-player and a bunch of veterans. Many guys in their late thirties or early fourties, some looking like late fifties after the game. What is this? What is Bergamo trying to proove, showing up with a home of the aged, getting beaten up by Twens!? Do you have a clue?
Dear Fabrizio. It seems to me, as if you got some brainpower. Maybe it is most useful in Italy, if you focus your ideas on your country first, before trying to reform europe out of the european football-chaos itself – Bella Italia.
