Cameron Newton – der zur Zeit umstrittenste und gleichzeitig wohl auch beste College Spieler – drückte dem SEC Finale mit 408 offensive yards und sechs touchdowns seinen Stempel auf.
Bereits nach dem ersten Viertel stand es 21:7 für Auburn. Newton bediente Onterio McCalebb und Darvin Adams mit touchdown Pässen und lief selbst einem weiteren TD. South Carolina kam mit einem Pass von Stephen Garcia auf Patrick DiMarco zu einem score. Als die Gamecocks nach einem weiteren TD Pass von Garcia (auf Alshon Jeffery) zum 21:14 Hoffnung schöpften, gelangte bei auslaufender Uhr ein 51-yards weiter hail mary pass von Newton in die Hände von Darvin Adams zum 28:14 Halbzeitstand.
Damit war der Widerstand der Kampfhähne gebrochen, Auburn startete furios in Hälfte zwei. Ein weiterer lauf von Newton, ein interception return touchdown von T’Sharvan Bell und der vierte touchdown pass Newtwons (dieses mal auf Emory Blake) schafften für klare Verhältnisse. Die Antwort South Carolinas: ein filedgoal von Spencer Lanning, welches Auburn mit einem weiteren score (Mario Fannin) quittierte. Zu dem Zeitpunkt war Newton schon nicht mehr am Feld und wurde von seinen Teamkollegen gefeiert.

Im „civil war“ setzte sich erwartungsgemäß Oregon gegen Orgeon State durch. Beim 37:20 zeigte Ducks Runningback LaMichael James mit 134 rushing yards bei 28 Versuchen zu zwei touchdowns erneut eine starke Leistung. James und Newton – bzw. Oregon und Auburn treffen nun am 10. Januar im National Champion Ship Game aufeinander.

Oregon vs. Auburn for the National Championship
Auburn and Oregon end their regular seasons undefeated and will meet on 10 January in the BCS national championship game in Glendale Arizona. Mike Resch from Eugene Oregon for Football-Austria.com.
What has been long anticipated is now official. The Oregon Ducks will meet the Auburn Tigers in the BCS national championship game on 10 January. Both teams are undefeated and champions of their respective conferences. It will be a great matchup between the two great football conferences, SEC vs. Pac-10.
To get there Auburn defeated South Carolina 56-17 in the SEC Championship game. Heisman trophy candidate Cam Newton, led his team by throwing for four scores and running for two more. Newton becomes only the second player at college football’s highest level to pass and run for 20 touchdowns in a season.
Across the country, in the State of Oregon’s Civil War game, Oregon passed its last hurdle by defeating their arch-rivals the Oregon State Beavers 37-20. Oregon’s one-two punch of LaMichael James (134 yards 2 TDs) and Kenjon Barner (133 yards 2 TDs) was too much for the Beavers.

College Championship Games auf ESPN America
ESPN America zeigt heute (Samstag) die Championship Games der Conference USA, der SEC und der Big 12 Conference.
Die Ergebnisse in den Championship Games sind mitentscheidend für Bowl Teilnahmen. Mit den als Nummer 1 gesetzten Auburn Tigers hat ein Team des heutigen Abends auch gute Chancen auf eine Teilnahme im National Championship Game kommenden Januar. Voraussetzung dafür wäre ein Sieg im SEC Championship Game (ab 22:00 auf ESPN America) gegen die South Carolina Gamecocks. Verlieren die Tigers, dann winkt zumindest eine Teilnahme in der Sugar Bowl.
Ebenfalls in die Sugar Bowl könnte es die Oklahoma Sooners ziehen, bei einem Sieg im Big 12 Championship Game im Nachtspiel (ab 02:00 auf ESPN America) gegen die Nebraska Cornhuskers.
