Charles Grant, Will Smith, Deuce McAllister (New Orleans Saints), Pat Williams, Kevin Williams (Minnesota Vikings) und Bryan Pittman (Houston Texans) wurden von der NFL für vier Spiele gesperrt. Ihnen wurde die Einnahme eines Präparats nachgewiesen, welches die Einnahme anaboler Steroide verschleiern soll.
‚Plax‘ droht eine lange Haftstrafe
Der regierende NFL-Champion New York Giants gab die Suspendierung ‚mit sofortiger Wirkung und ohne Bezahlung bis zum Saisonende‘ von Wide Receiver Plaxico Burress bekannt. Der 31-Jährige schoss sich versehentlich selbst in den Oberschenkel. Er wurde noch am Montag wegen Verstoßes gegen das Waffengesetzt angeklagt. Burress muß bei einem Schuldspruch mit einer Haftstrafe von dreieinhalb bis 15 Jahren rechnen. Das Urteil wird für den 31. März des kommenden Jahres erwartet.

‚The NFL policy on performance-enhancing and related substances is a collectively bargained program between the league and the NFL Players Association. The program and the Collective Bargaining Agreement expressly bar precisely this kind of lawsuit. All of the program’s rules and procedures are established in agreement with the players‘ union. In other words, the players have agreed to the rules and the procedures that they are now challenging. There is no merit to this lawsuit and we look forward to responding to it in court.”
