The second season of the College Football “Playoff” era begins this weekend. Last season the Ohio State Buckeyes became the consensus national champion by soundly defeating the Oregon Ducks. To get to the championship game Ohio State defeated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, while Oregon defeated the defending champion Florida State in the Rose Bowl. Here’s a quick Oregon-style Rose Bowl highlight real.
This year Ohio State is once again loaded with talent and begins the season ranked #1 in the AP poll. Oregon, due to the loss of Heisman Trophy winner QB Marcus Mariota, starts the season ranked at #7. Marcus Mariota has moved on to the NFL to play quarterback for the Tennessee Titans where he is projected to start the team’s opener. The loss of Marcus will be felt deeply in Eugene, but in Oregon a lot is unchanged. As usual, the talent rich team packed with speed, skill and more speed will be striving to reach the national championship game. Also as usual, the Ducks will be displaying new uniforms at every game. It is even projected that they may wear a sort of “glow in the dark” uniform at some point during the season.
Oregon’s season begins this Saturday against Eastern Washington. Although Eastern Washington is a good FCS school, this shouldn’t be a challenging game for the Ducks. The Duck’s will meet their biggest challenge prior to the start of league play when they travel to #5 Michigan State on 12 September. Last year the Ducks defeated MSU in Autzen Stadium. This year MSU will be looking for revenge. More about this game next week.
Before I go I’d like to leave you all with an excellent Oregon motivational video.
“2015-16 Pump Up”
Mike Resch reporting from Eugene Oregon where it never rains, it only pours touchdowns.
P.S. As everyone who has attended a football game knows, football is not only big and fast guys running into each other. Football also has beauty, finesse and dexterity, in other words, football has cheerleaders. Oregon is very proud of their squad. Here’s a video describing the process of making the University of Oregon cheer squad.
