What To Look For – NFL Week 4

100 IN 100: Through the first three weeks of the NFL’s 100th season, 11 quarterbacks have a passer rating of 100 or higher (minimum 20 attempts), the most through three weeks in NFL history.

That list of quarterbacks includes two rookies, DANIEL JONES (New York Giants) and GARDNER MINSHEW (Jacksonville), along with two second-year quarterbacks, KYLE ALLEN (Carolina) and LAMAR JACKSON (Baltimore). In total, six quarterbacks under the age of 25 and eight under the age of 30 have a passer rating of 100 or higher (minimum 20 attempts) through the first three weeks.

Six other quarterbacks, including Tennessee’s MARCUS MARIOTA (99.3) and the Los Angeles Chargers’ PHILIP RIVERS (98.5), have a passer rating of 95 or higher this season and look to join this group after Week 3. Through a season’s first four weeks, only 2015 and 2007 have featured at least 11 quarterbacks with a passer rating of 100 or higher (minimum 20 attempts). ​

MAHOMES STREAKING
:

Kansas City quarterback PATRICK MAHOMES passed for 374 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Chiefs’ 33-28 win over Baltimore last week. Mahomes – who passed for 378 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1 and 443 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 2 –   is the first player to record at least 350 passing yards, three touchdown passes and no interceptions in three consecutive games in NFL history.

Dating back to Week 6 of the 2018 season, the reigning league MVP has thrown at least two touchdown passes in 14 consecutive games. With at least two touchdown passes on Sunday at Detroit (1:00 PM ET, FOX), Mahomes can tie PEYTON MANNING (15 consecutive games) for the most consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes in NFL history.​

CAROLINA KYLE
:

In his first start of the season last week, Carolina quarterback KYLE ALLEN passed for 261 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 144.4 passer rating in the Panthers’ Week 3 win. Allen also threw for 228 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 111.3 rating in Carolina’s Week 17 victory in 2018, his first career start.

With at least two touchdown passes and no interceptions on Sunday at Houston (1:00 PM ET, FOX), Allen would become the first player in the Super Bowl era to throw at least two touchdown passes without an interception in each of his first three career starts.

COOKING UP YARDS:

Minnesota running back DALVIN COOK rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings’ Week 3 win over Oakland and has recorded at least 100 rushing yards and a touchdown in each of his first three games of the season. His 375 rushing yards lead the league through three weeks.

With at least 100 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on Sunday at Chicago (4:25 PM ET, CBS), Cook would become the fifth player in NFL history with at least 100 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in each of his team’s first four games to begin a season.​

:

Buffalo running back FRANK GORE has rushed for 14,912 yards over his 15-year NFL career. With 88 rushing yards on Sunday against New England (1:00 PM ET, CBS), Gore would become the fourth player in league history to reach 15,000 career rushing yards. The other three players are all enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Oakland tight end DARREN WALLER had a career-high 13 catches for 134 yards last week. His 26 receptions rank second in the league and lead all tight ends through the first three weeks of the season.

With eight receptions on Sunday at Indianapolis (1:00 PM ET, CBS), Waller would surpass ANTONIO GATES (33 receptions) for the most receptions by a tight end through his team’s first four games of a season in NFL history.

Tampa Bay linebacker SHAQUIL BARRETT enters Week 4 with a league-leading eight sacks. Barrett registered three sacks in Week 2, followed by a career-high four-sack performance last week, tying a Tampa Bay single-game franchise record.

With at least 1.5 sacks on Sunday at the Los Angeles Rams (4:05 PM ET, FOX), Barrett would surpass MARK GASTINEAU (nine sacks, 1984), KABEER GBAJA-BIAMILA (nine, 2001) and Pro Football Hall of Famer KEVIN GREENE (nine, 1998) for the most sacks by a player through his team’s first four games of a season since 1982 when the individual sack became an official statistic.​
