Oregon #1 in the BCS

0

There’s no doubt now who’s #1. Saturday the Ducks conquered the USC Trojans 53-32. Heisman candidate LaMichael James ran for 249 yards and three TDs, while QB Darron Thomas threw for 288 yards and four TDs; 599 yards of total offense.

For a football fan the game was wonderful to watch. After going back and forth for three quarters the Ducks took over the fourth quarter and ran away with the game. As usual, the Oregon offense was overpowering. However this game showed that Oregon’s supersonic offense isn’t just Flash. Yes it’s true that this year the Ducks have scored 19 touchdowns on drives that have lasted less than a minute, and Saturday’s game was no exception. The Ducks three 2nd quarter TD scoring drives averaged 30 seconds each; 2 plays 46 yards 54 seconds, 1 play 45 yards 9 seconds and 2 plays 34 yards 28 seconds (!!!).

The real story of this game is the Duck’s sustained drives. In the 3rd and 4th quarters. After the Trojans had retaken the lead 29-32, the Ducks had three scoring drives of 11, 12 and 11 plays, each lasting over 4 minutes. These drives ground down the USC defense. The computers liked the show. The end result, the Ducks are #1 in the BCS.

For you all that enjoy football videos as much as I do, here’s another Oregon fight song, ‚Put Your O’s Up”

The Oregon Duck mascot is getting a lot of attention this year. Saturday the Duck did 252 pushups, one for each point on the scoreboard each time the Ducks scored. Here’s a video showing the lighter side of Oregon Football

Mike Resch reporting from Eugene Oregon, where it never rains, it only pours touchdowns.
