Nach der 6-10 Saison rechnete man allgemein mit einer Ablöse Fishers, der zudem im Dauerclinch mit Quarterback Vince Young lag, von dem er sich trennen wollte. Besitzer Bud Adams entschied sich Anfang Januar noch zu einem überraschende Schritt, indem er sich von seinem ehemaligen 1st round pick Young trennte und Fisher gleichzeitig bestätigte. Nun muss auch der Coach gehen. Eine Rückkehr Youngs wird es deshalb aber nicht geben, sagte Adams. Fisher erreichte mit Tennessee die Super Bowl XXIV (2000) unterlag in dieser jedoch den St. Louis Rams. Es war gleichzeitig der größte Erfolg in seiner Trainerlaufbahn und auch jener der Titans.
Heißester Kandidat für Fishers Posten ist O-Line Coach Mike Munchak. Offiziell wurde aber noch kein Nachfolger genannt. Auch die Zukunft von Fisher ist noch ungewiss. (red)
