Last weekend the now 17th ranked Oregon Ducks took care of business soundly defeating the USC Trojans 48-28. Oregon led 31-14 at the half. Sports prognosticators are now calling the Ducks one of the hottest teams in college football.
Once again the Oregon offense had a spectacular game. QB Vernon Adams tossed six touchdown passes to six different receivers. He completed 20 or 25 pass attempts for 407 yards. That’s right, he had more TD passes than incompletions. On the ground, Oregon’s RB ‘Rolls’ Royce Freeman ran the ball 20 times for 147 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. The Oregon offense was so explosive that twice in the first half the Ducks scored on one play drives.
Here is a short highlight video:

Here are Oregon highlights from the game:

This week in the great State of Oregon its Rivalry week and that means “Civil War.” This year’s game will be the 119th time the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers have met. The Ducks hold a 62-46-10 edge and current win streak of seven in a row. Unfortunately, this year’s game doesn’t have the importance of previous meetings. Oregon State, under new head coach Gary Anderson, is 2-9 and 0-8 in the Pac-12. It has been a rebuilding year with significant changes to the offensive scheme.
Recently the Beavers have fallen on hard times. But not so long ago the Civil War game reached its peak of importance. The most important Civil War game ever was played in 2009. It is called the “War for the Roses,” where the winner’s reward was to play in the Rose Bowl. The Ducks won that game 37-33.
The rivalry has generated many slogans, songs and videos. My favorite was produced by the Beavers in 2009. “I Smell Roast Duck”:
