This Saturday the California Golden Bears are coming to Autzen Stadium. The game is expected to be a shoot-out. California, led by junior QB Jared Goff, has a high powered offense. Many prognosticators see Goff, who is 6′-4" (193 cm) and 215 lbs (98 kg) going to the NFL after this season and being picked in the early rounds of the next draft. It’s going to be a very challenging game for the Oregon defense. Both teams really need a win. California started the season 5-0 but has lost the last three games in a row. Oregon, if it loses another game, will be having its worst season since 2004.
This past weekend, in triple overtime, the Oregon Ducks defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 61-55. Oregon QB Vernon Adams had his best game as a Duck, coming up huge with his ability to extend plays. He finished 23-40 for 315 yards and four touchdowns. His most important contribution came with 00:23 seconds remaining. After scrambling, with two tacklers in pursuit, he through off his back foot for a touchdown to tie the game.
With the win the Ducks are still in the hunt for the Pac-12 title. Although they need some help. Both Stanford and Washington State must lose one game and Oregon must beat Stanford on 14 November.
Here are Oregon highlights from the game. At the 4:50 mark WR/DB Charles Nelson runs a kick-off back 100 yards. Beginning at the 8:46 mark, the video covers the three overtime periods. Its QB Vernon Adams at his best.
Here is some fun news. Last weekend, the New Mexico State Aggies ended their 17 game losing streak, the longest losing streak in major college football, by defeating the Idaho Vandals. It all ended in overtime with a New Mexico State player intercepting a pass … with his FEET.
P.S. For those who enjoy motivational football videos, here’s a good one from last week. Turn it up!
